James Franco produces Gucci Documentary

Even though it’s been quite the year for James Franco, he’s still not showing any signs of slowing down. This year alone he took over the multiplexes with Oz: The Great and the Powerful, and sneaked his way into art house cinemas by redefining the term “unhinged character” in Spring Breakers. Next on his list is the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, where “The Director” is set to premiere: a documentary on the Gucci fashion house produced by the actor.

Franco’s no stranger to the label, having done stints as a spokesmodel for Gucci to promote their cologne and their Made to Measure tailor service. His latest project looks to spend more time behind the scenes with creative director Frida Giannini than on the catwalk.

It’s hard to call Franco multi-talented, although we do appreciate his enthusiasm. As an actor his work ranges from the great (the aforementioned Spring Breakers, Freaks and Geeks, Pineapple Express, 127 hours) to the average (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the Spider-man trilogy), the awful (Tristan+Isolde, Flyboys) and the plain bizarre (General Hospital). Whether he’s an accomplished author, director and teacher (no joke) or not is not for us to say. (Simply because we chose to use our free time to do other things, surprisingly non-Franco related.)

If you’re a fan of Gucci, be sure to check out their designer sunglasses and glasses. Fans of Franco who haven’t seen Freaks and Geeks need to right their wrongs asap. To those of you who have already done so we recommend either watching it again, or pulling a Franco and commencing work on an art installation that combines pyrotechnics and a hatred for disco with insight into Daniel Desario’s mind. The choice – as always – is yours.
